FAQ: What is a reactive glaze?
Glazes are intended to completely melt inside a kiln when they reach a specific temperature, essentially turning into glass. Some glazes are designed to move when they melt, resulting in more variability in the finished colour. They may be one colour where they are thinner, and another where they pool and become thicker. This is often referred to as “breaks” in the glaze. The family of glazes that "run" are known as reactive glazes.
